Next week we continue learning CREW expectations in all areas of our school. Dismissal is at 2:45 (1:45 on Wednesdays) and parents are asked to meet students outside on the playground in the same area that students are picked up in the morning. Our courtyard hallways can become very congested after school, So it is important that all students in grades 1 through 5 are dismissed outside on the playground. In the event that it is raining, all students will be dismissed from their classrooms. The PTA will be hosting their first meeting Tuesday, August 13th at 6 pm. We will be hosting our annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 24th! PTA will be serving pancakes so that our community will have a chance to meet with other families and the teachers! This is a wonderful Sam Hughes tradition you don’t want to miss! Sincerely, Kathryn Bolasky Principal Find how the PTA supports your elementary school! We even feature several songs where everyone in the school sings together! Musically and Artfully yours, Ms. Gascho After-School Classes Return To Sam Hughes! Many of you know that TUSD cut our after-school enrichment program (Community School) in 2018. But now, thanks to a lobbying effort by parents, this program is coming back! We are anticipating having after-school classes in art, capoeira, ceramics, chess, drama, folklórico, Legos, recycle squad, robotics/coding, sewing, Spanish and yoga. We need to raise money to cover some of the start-up costs -- to buy robots for the coding class, costumes for the folklórico group, art supplies, curriculum materials for the Spanish classes, steel storage cabinets and other necessities. The PTA has partnered with a Tucson non-profit group, the Educational Enrichment Foundation, to allow you to contribute to Community School at no cost to you using the Arizona charitable tax credit. If you are already contributing to the school via the public school tax credit, please continue to do that. If you are already doing that and are looking for another way to support our students, please consider contributing to Community School via the charitable tax credit. The limits for that tax credit are $400 for individuals and $800 for couples. You can claim both credits (the public school tax credit and the charitable tax credit) at the same time, meaning you can max out on both tax credits if you so choose. To contribute to Community School via EEF, go here: EEF will send you a receipt for tax credit purposes. We are truly grateful for any help you can give to get this program off the ground! If you have any questions about Community School, please consult our FAQ page: Don't forget to download the app so you can start scanning so we can keep earning!
