I am sorry I missed my weekly update last week—I was out sick most of the week last week and am still trying to be back to 100%. Hopefully I get there soon!
On the 5th of October, the Arizona Department of Education announced school letter grades based on the 2016-2017 student achievement data.
I am proud to announce that we were able to maintain our A status!
This is not an easy task! The model that determines a school letter grade promotes growth in student achievement. Growth in student achievement scores makes up 50% of the letter grade calculation. Actual achievement on the AzMERIT accounts for 30% of the letter grade calculation. The remaining 20% includes factors such as absenteeism (% of students with 19 or more absences—excused and unexcused), proficiency and growth of students with English as a second language, acceleration, and readiness.
Congratulations to the students and teachers of Hughes! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to Excelling Everyday have been recognized!
Next Wednesday is Halloween. Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school. We ask that costumes follow the district dress code, include school appropriate footwear (e.g. no slippers), and do not include weapons or masks. Students are welcome to bring a change of clothes so they have the option to change if they do not want to stay in their costumes all day.
All orders are due October 31. This fundraiser directly supports our ability to have the Stories that Soar! program come to Sam Hughes. You can order via the catalog or online here. If you lost your student's access code we can get it for you! Please email samhughespta@gmail.com or message us via our facebook page or remind group. Thank you for supporting our school!
Mark your calendar; the cast of Stories that Soar! will be at Sam Hughes on Friday, November 2. The performance will be in our courtyard at 9 am. Family and friends are welcome to enjoy the performance—be sure to bring chairs or blankets to sit on!
The cast of actors will be performing stories written by the students of Sam Hughes! It is so exciting to watch the students discover that their story is being brought to life!
You definitely want to attend this event!
I have sent a ParentLink email requesting your help in completing a survey for the district. TUSD is gathering data about family engagement at the schools and it is imperative we take this opportunity to highlight our wonderful community!
Please support Sam Hughes by completing the survey at the link below. Your feedback is very important in communicating the wonderful community we have here at Hughes. The survey is available in both English and Spanish. ENGLISH https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5G7S5DJ SPANISH https://es.surveymonkey.com/r/DRFRW8Z
Thank you in advance for your time and support! We are gathering as many responses as possible by November 2nd.
Please be aware of the parking restrictions on the streets surrounding our school. There are areas where permits are required. Also, we have heard from our neighbors that driveways and garages are being blocked during morning drop off and afternoon pick up.
Please be sure to follow all parking restrictions and keep driveways, alleys, and garages clear.
Thank you for being CREW!
Thank you, Kat
